The all-new 2011 Chevrolet Volt that will mark the first ever Chevrolet's fuel economy and zero emission electric car will be available over the next few weeks in many Chevrolet showrooms. This car is known for its ability to operate using electric and gasoline fuel. Systematically, the electricity is used for the first 25 to 50 miles while the gasoline is used for the next miles. Though, before this complex yet easy-to-use car enters the market, a preparation concerning the car's fuel economy aspect has been made.

In this aspect, Chevrolet has made some changes within the all-new 2011 Chevrolet Volt. The changes involve the main idea composed the Volt's development, fuel economy electric vehicle. Specifically, a special collaboration work was formed between General Motors (GM) and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to invent and develop a new fuel economy label. This new label must be created in order to give better view about Volt to the customers. The exact calculation of the car's fuel economy is the answer to this effort. Considering the fact that the all-new Volt uses two energy sources, electricity and gasoline, a series of test using these two energy sources is necessary. The method is simple; just divide the distance of the car's travel by the amount of fuel consumed. Specifically, for the electric fuel, the amount of electricity used in the travel can be converted so that it has the same calculation of gasoline fuel. The MPG equivalent (MPGe) is uncovered by this calculation. This easy calculation can be used because Volt itself is a plug-in car. Of course, the customers could make a comparison between the Volt's fuel economy and other similar segmented cars using this MPG equivalent.
